Northwest Washington Lakes & Rivers

In addition to coastal waterfronts, Northwest Washington attracts residents and visitors to some of the state's most beautiful and popular lakes, including Lake Whatcom, Lake Cavanaugh, Ross Lake and Baker Lake.

In the lower part of Northwest Washington, the Skagit River runs 150 miles from Skagit Bay to the Cascade Mountains, home to native salmon and trout as well as wintering snow geese and the largest wintering concentration of bald eagles in the United States.

Northwest Washington Towns & Cities

Visitors to Northwest Washington will find a mix of urban and rural communities, mid-size cities, artists' havens, small resort towns and fishing villages, as well as a thriving outdoor adventure scene and a wealth of options for fishing and boating.

Anacortes at the northern tip of Fidalgo Island is often called the gateway to the San Juan Islands as home to the main ferry service with ferries departing at least once an hour and service to Lopez Island, Orcas Island, San Juan Island and Shaw Island.

Bellingham, Washington on Bellingham Bay, has been cited as one of America's best small cities. It offers not only the best of urban life - dining, theater, shopping and a host of events throughout the year - but also serves as an ideal "home base" for nearby outdoor excursions or exploring the buzzing, metropolitan diversity of Seattle (an hour and half away) and Vancouver, B.C. (an hour away).

At the other end of the spectrum are the region's quaint harbor villages and quiet small towns, including La Conner, Birch Bay and Ferndale, each with its own unique offering for visitors - art communities, fishing marinas, farmer's markets, yachting tours, flower festivals and more. With all of this selection, you're bound to find a piece of Northwest waterfront real estate that is perfect for you!
